Tall Boulder wall...

hello everyone - hope everyone's having a great season so far...

i am loking fo ra suggestion or two. i have a client who wants to remove a set of concrete block steps and replace with stone steps and a boulder wall (photo attached). however, the wall will be in the neighborhood of 7' tall and i don't have a lot of room for a decent setback. (and on a 7' boulder wall, a decent setback would be nice...)

what are your thoughts on a wall of this size (3-4' boulders as base, going to 2-3 at top)?.

i appreciate any input on this tricky one.

Jim

It's hard to tell how much space is to the left of the door but I would say a stone wall there would be impossible.

not much space at all. in fact, the new wall and staircase would have to be pushed away from the driveway and the steps would have to exit the porch almost at the far end away from the drive.

You might be able to get a smaller boulder look and keep the current configuration by doing a block wall with veneered boulders.

If they are fixed on big boulders, you might have to take the front steps directly to the street/front sidewalk, and consider a smaller cheater path to the driveway halfway down the driveway.

Personally, I don't think it would look right anyway. Large boulders would look completely out of scale with the house.

How about just a new stone wall to replace the ugly brick one and maybe stone veneer on the steps.
