After a salesman more or less propositioned me with offers of chocolates and booze or "whatever it takes" for the boss' (aka- my hubby) cell phone number... I'm certain he won't be calling again.

In the office today due to rain and guess what....just got the call. He was willing to send one for free If I wanted. Don't think so. I hate when people call and act like you know them......that alone made me want to hang up.

Lets face it...Dog Eat Dog...Those salesman calling all day for 8-10 hours a day are mostly young people that have no respect for themselves or the clients whom they cater to...I am a father of now, 6 kids, with experience in the business and have the utmost respect for my clients...Let me ask a question...

If you had the oppurtunity to purchase a reliable product at a low cost without ever having to take a SALES CALL again would you JUMP ON IT?

I too laugh when they call and say 'how's it goin' out there? I know right away that is who it is.... When I first started I had my cell # in the yellow pages and it is now on call lists.... I had a guy a few years back get mad and hagup because I would not listen to heim... he actually had is manager call me back adn give me the line of 'don't I want to keep my money local and help out the community?' UH YES I DO... then he said with the money I save I can put that right into my local community.

When they ask how many blades I use, I say dozens, man I can't seem to find a good source... and then hang up.
or
Do you do patios, walls and flagstone, and hardscapes? when is the last time a homeowner said this? I say you bet I do, then hang up.
I had a guy last week call my my cell # and I put him on speaker phone (cell phone) and I was standing in a yard talking to my bobcat operator, with him actually yelling HELLO, I can hear them, but I don't know if they hear me...(to his co-workers) we jsut smiled and kept talking and after about 5 minutes we started talking to him and he was mad because I was wasting my cell minutes.... I said I was wasting his time not mine. TOld him I use 40-50 blades a year and put the phone back down..... last thing I heard was he wanted to send me a free blade..........

I only but local, and agree with the statement that you don't make business decision over the phone.. including advertising.

get me off this soap box will ya?
