bullnose on pool

I have a pool that i am going to use bullnose pavers on as a coping. The pool is fiberglass and i will be using paver adhesive to attatch the pavers. What is the optimum overhang(if any) for the bullnose pavers? Can someone post pics of corners so I can get some ideas for perfect cuts in the corners. Thanks.

We over hang 1-inch, but then the waterline tile is 1/2-inch thick, leaving us a 1/2-inch overhang. The bullnose we use is 4x9.

Peace,

Rex

How did the coping install go? I'm asking because a friend had a fiberglass pool installed and the top edge of the pool has a lot of variation in height. Some places it is an inch lower than others. I don't know if this is typical with fiberglass or if the installer screwed up. Also after installing a bullnose the first step will be much higher than the others.

Fiberglass pools suck for bullnose or any other type of paver coping.

I did a job about 5 years ago....never will attempt one again.

It was a fiberglass pool, random shaped, with stairs, seats, and what not, all sorts of funny angles to cut. We used techo blok neptune cap (cap that has the granitex finishe and smoothed face)

The pool was horrible. From one side to the other, you could see variances between the water level and the top of the fibershell of up to 3".

The pool had a concrete pad poured around it, flush with the top of the fiberglass pool coping. We used a combination of paver glue and then epoxy. The glue did not stick very well to the fiberglass, and because of the width of the coping and overhang of the cap, there wasn't much to glue on the back end to the the poured concrete pad that we were overlaying with pavers. I was not very happy with the whole situation, but that was what we were given to deal with.

My best advice. Get a concrete guy and do a cantilever concrete pour for the coping. That would be the only way I would approach one of those hunks of junks again. I guess you could just do a 3-4 ft concrete apron around the outside also, flush with the backside of the coping, or maybe pavers flush with the backside fo the coping, but cutting will be a pita with all the curves and funny juts that fiberglass pools seem to have.

I just became a dealer for a fiberglass pool manufacture.

Some of you guys mentioned that the pools you worked with were out of level. That is an issue with the pool installer not fiberglass pools in general.
Ofcourse, no matter how level you get the base the pool could move alittle out of level after you put 100,000lbs of water in it. Your suppose to install the waterline tile to make up for it being alittle out of level. There is not one single gunite pool that is perfectly level when shot with the gunite. They use the tile to level the pool.

I was taught to buy some metal lathe and screw it into the lip of the pool. And than motar your copping (pavers, bullnose, etc) on. They been doing it this way for years.

There is a company called master tile that make bullnose just for fiberglass pools. You may want to look into that.

I do not know what brand fiberglass pool you guys work on. But i was told that i need to pour a 12 in bond beam out of concrete around the entire pool. I need to bend rebar and acctual run it through the reinforments on the side of the pool and than tie it into the rebar in the bond beam.

Any more questions just ask.

Matt

Keep in mind that paver adhesive might "melt" a bit in the hotter temperatures and would probably cause the bullnose to slide. Not such a good thing around a pool.
The metal lath / bond beam seems like the best option.

I had adhesive melt before on bullnose aorund a pool on a concrete overlay. That was a bad experiences! What can you do from keeping the adhesive from melting during the summer?

MRUSK who are you installing pools for(I mean what brand)? We have worked with a Viking pool guy and haven't had any problems with the adhesive with the bullnose. Fiberglass pools are taking off around here.
