Laser Level

Anyone have any experience or input on this slope laser.

http://trimble.com/gplus.html

We are looking at adding another laser but i am not keen on spending 5k on a dual slope laser. Seems to me that a single slope laser would be adequate for our patio installs etc.

Thanks

Can someone describe in laymans terms what a "single slope" laser is? I realize it must have something to do with creating pitch for flatwork, piping, etc. Just curious how it works. THanks

Paul is on a distinguished road
A single slope laser will work about 75% of the time, they are great for pipe installs, and straight drive installs. Adding the second plane to a slope laser (dual slope) lets you pitch the laser two ways on the same plane.

Taking a flat plane and giving it 2% down (x axis) and 3% (y axis) left to right would pitch water down slope and to the right.

VoodooChile will become famous soon enough
I'm with capeholedigger; it would be great to hear someone like Paul, chesie or Bill Schwab provide a practical explanation of how a two-slope laser would be used to install a paver driveway that pitches water down slope and to the right...

OK Guys & Gals-

I am no expert but have used lasers enough to know a bit. Currently I am in the market for another laser & my dealer has shown me this product and it makes alot of sense( to me).

Trimble laser w/ single slope feature which is about all we need when pitching a patio away from a house.

http://www.trimble.com/ll300.html

Now ad this feature and it's use takes off.

http://www.trimble.com/cr600.shtml

We do a fair amount of footers and small basement excavations and this would save alot getting out of the cab to check grades or the cost of a laborer to check grades.

So the prices I was quoted:

LL300 self leveling laser w/ single slope & reciever: $857.00
Tripod & stick: 165.00
Remote needed for single slope 125.00
Receiver that has a heavy magnet for attaching to
stick of excavator or clamp for use on a second
grade rod. 590.00

Total: $1,707.00

I don't think that is a bad investment when the last non sloping laser cost us $1200.00

Now I go with Trimble because we have a servicing dealer 3 minutes away. I know that Topcon has a similar unit that runs approx. $2200.00 for the same package.

Hope it helps someone. Comments?

Go with the closer, if they are reputable, dealer. I have not heard too much about the magnet set-up for the machine. I know Bill Schwabb spent about 20G's for similar laser controlled equipment for his excavators.
