I looked at a client's backyard pool (it's still covered at this point) and she wants to replace the current standard poured concrete deck. She has a patio of Classico pavers laid in the fishscale pattern which she would like to duplicate or imitate for the deck.
Here's the question: How do I put in pavers and retain the anchoring system for the cover of this curvacious pool?
Or should I let her put in stamped concrete? (Not a favorite idea in my book)

I have done a job like this before. What we ended up doing is pouring an 8" coloured concrete border around the pool to support the pool coping. Be warned though this will likely mean replacing the both the coping and the vinyl liner. If the liner is more than a few years old it will have shrunk beyond the point that it can be successfully reused.

I'm not even familiar with the anchors that need to be used - is it a ring to which you attach a hook from the liner? If so, how deep does the ring unit go?

I was assuming a fitted cover that fits into a slot in the pool coping, but you know what they say about assuming.

The anchors are not on the coping. They are located beyond the coping, in the surrounding concrete deck. Since the pool has a kidney shape, they follow the outline. It is this deck that the client wants to replace.

Tell us about the anchoring system - what do these anchors in the concrete look like?

Are you overlaying the concrete or doing R&R on it?

The existing concrete is flush with the coping so I was thinking that it needed to come out. I haven't had time to go back to look but I think the anchors are cylinders.

If you are overlaying then just drill holes in the pavers and into the existing concrete. Most of the cylinders are about 2 inches some are longer. If you are using 80mm pavers no need to go into the concrete below. We look at each anchor system individually and come up with a solution.

Is the concrete around the coping being removed? If so, why not use a screw type anchor into the ground itself, like 8-10" and have the top exposed. Similar to a dog chain anchor, only a designed that will work for the pool cover connectors. Or perhaps even a stake into the ground with a whire loop attached for the hooks and then lay the new paver deck over these.

There's a good idea Wiz. I use these to tie up my dogs. They are super strong.
