This is a quick question for anyone using PL brand block adhesive.

This year, they switched their caulk tubes from paper to plastic. I've been buying the PL premium polyurethane from Home Depot lately which is all still paper, so haven't used it until lately.

Was wondering if anyone else has used the new tubes and if they have any problems.

So far, every tube I've used is leaking out of the seal inside the tube and is beginning to aggrevate the living daylights out of me as you can't pull the plunger all the way back, and in the morning, if you leave a tube in the gun, it hardens up and gives the added pleasure of spending 15 mins. to clean out the gun.

I never had this problem with the old tubes, so am wondering if this is just a personal problem I'm having.

Also, for people in NJ, I just got the word from my supplier that the state of NJ is not allowing PL brand block adhesive to be sold in the state beginning near the end of the year. I have no idea why, and the supplier couldn't find the letter they received telling them why, so am trying to figure this one out.

I am going to be very upset, as I use PL products religiously and don't want to switch back to other brands that don't work as well and cost 2 times as much.

I'm gonna ask again for the letter with the explanation when I go back. I really wonder if it has something to do with the chemical composition and the potential to be made into a bomb or something........that would be typical NJ, but probably has to do with health hazards........which again, I can't figure out what on earth the risks are.

Pl glue is the bomb when it comes to glueing block. So maybe your theory is right on. I also buy my glue from h depot and have run into the same problem as you but only occasionaly. Nothing a sharp knife and a clean stick or putty knife can't fix. Thats usually the way I deal with 2 day old glue any way.

When you find out about the "ban" please post back, I am sure NY will only be a month or 2 behind

Sure Bond products, as well as SRW brand adhesive are the only two we use. I never go to
Home Depot, for any reason, except when I'm lookijng for sod on a day when the good companies don't deliver.

Stay far away from Tite Bomd products out of

ohio. Theyt make an adheasive that fails when it gets wet and they will blame it on improper installation.

That really stinks . What other state will no longer allow PL or is it just one of those stupid "only in New Jersey" Laws?? Oh, well! I'll just go back to using Sure Bond stuff again. Unless........Something better comes around our way!

A little more info I dug up.........no help from my supplier, which I should figure.

Just searched PL website..

They have VOC approved landscape block adhesive out..........this pertains to state and federal EPA standards for 'volatile organic composition'.....

I'm going out on a limb here and going to assume that NJ's regulations don't let the regular PL block adhesive pass its tests for "VOC", so..........it appears they have a VOC approved version of the same block adhesive out....

You can see it here in their product line...

http://www.stickwithpl.com/products/...nstruction.asp

I'm hoping that my supplier.......being a typical 'clueless supplier' is unaware of what is going on, and will be able to sell the new VOC approved version......and hopefully what is going on (and what they seem clueless on) is they won't be able to sell the non-approved version anymore, but instead the VOC one.

Sometimes it just bothers me how suppliers don't have a clue what is going on.

I prefer the red, yellow and black tube, anyway.

You know stone, that's probably the best way to go.

A lumber store had a sale on the pl premium a while back for the jumbo tubes and I bought about 8 cases as it was under $5 a tube. I ran out last month and on top of that, my spanish guys with their 'little hands' had trouble squeezing the big caulk guns, so I switched back.

Now, in boycott of my supplier being cluess, I think I will just say kapoot with him and go back to the premium, which is still cheaper than the landscape block anyway.

I just try to buy what I can from one place as I believe it is good business, and I buy most of my materials there, but if they want to be non-supportive of my needs, I will be non-supportive of their sales!
