interesting edge restraint

Was looking through some of my marked web pages and came across this one today. Can't remember who, but someone here talked about the great 'gaspi' patios and somehow I marked their page.

Anyway, here's a version of edge restraint their selling that looked interesting.

http://www.gappsi.com/main/index.jsp

It looks very interesting, but the problem I already have is that many of us cut our borders in place with a cutoff.......not sure how that is going to work out with this design.

I like the structural tie in though.

Their edge restraint has its place. In Florida and some other states the soil is to sandy or rocky to hold in a spike for an edge restraint. This style allows the weight of the pavers to hold the restraint in place. Allot of guys use geogrid under the pavers and wrap the edge restraint in it. It does the same thing.

I have never liked edge restraints, that would not allow me to float my edge(s).

Peace,

Rex

I have been looking at a lot of the edge restraint systems you have over there. My concern is the stability of the edges with vehicular traffic. I have always laid my edge pavers into a concrete footing that is at least 4in thick with reinforcing in it. If a vehicle was to drive over the edge, it would remain in place. I also placed a full depth expansion joint every 3 metres to allow for expansion and contraction.

We also wet set pavers, using a 6x6 bond beam and butter the bottoms of the pavers with thin set mortar. Of all the plastic systems out there, I like Snap Edge the best. Good triangulation with the edge, and strong enough when you need to cut it for curves. Used to run about $1.10 a foot.

I agree that this system by using that 'deadman' adds that extra bit of 'insurance'.

Gotta commends guys when they come up with good ideas, he'll probably save a few people's butt's along the way.
