Recycling Blades?

Does anyone recycle diamond blades, IOW, weld new diamond to the blade disc after the first set is worn out? I currently use 10" and 14" blades. Perhaps there's more work involved than it's worth?

Pelican -

What saws do you use the 10" blades with? I was looking into those myself, actually.

As for recycling, I can't say that I do. I thought I remembered one of my suppliers saying they'd do it, but it was quite a while ago and I never followed up.

One use I discovered from some of the nice folks here is a use for the blades after the diamond segments are gone - use the blade as a sod cutter. Mark lot lines with string or chalk, and buzz the line with the old blade on a saw. Don't have to be concerned about rocks damaging the blade - it's already gone.

Save some of the pain in the neck work associated with laying sod.

I saw your post regarding the 10" blades, but I use mine on my Target table saw.

I was curious if "recylcling" might be a service Garden State offered.

Good tip on the sod cutting.

Hey Pelican.....In most cases, the smaller diameter blades dont get RE TIPPED...Just thrown away....Jeff thats the first I heard about the SOD CUTTTTING....Great Idea....I do know of RE TIPPING being done on larger diameter blades for High Horsepower walk behinds...These blades can be costly and if you lose a segment or two before the blade wears out, it is worth having it repaired..I dont know how much you are paying to replace your blades, but I can assure you this.....I have wholesale prices on all these blades..You choose which you need and I'll get ya a price.....Good Luck.......

Thanks for the reply, Wizard.

Something funky happened here last night, I thought I posted twice a response to Stonehenge, yet it doesn't appear here.

I've got a Target table saw for the 10" blades, and a Partner cutoff for the 14s. I saw your post on the 10s, can't offer any info there.

Good tip on the sod cutter, Thanks!

The landscaper's utility knife referred to above has more uses than just laying in new sod too. It is great for edging in a new bed or laying out excavating marks. It's cheaper than paint just run 2 parallel lines and peel out the sod with a grub hoe. I often recycle the sod from the site to use for the fix up after the pavers are down. I just slice lines about 12 to 16 inches apart and peel up and roll back the sod with a sod lifter. Wadda ya know, another couple of bucks saved, must be the Dutch in me.
