questn Kubota or Tonka?

Called our eqpt rental guys - asked for a mini-X. They said they didn't have any, but had a tractor with a backhoe. I said 'fine, here's the address to deliver it to.'

The pic below is what showed up. The tank on the thing held about 3 gallons of fuel..... And to me it's not a tractor if there are instructions of how to raise or lower a mowing deck....

Anyway, if the thing were bigger, I could see us adding one to our stable, as it was pretty useful, except for being woefully underpowered and small.

I wonder what something like that would cost new.

That thing makes your skidsteer look HUGE!!!

There is a strange correlation between waiting until the last minute to call for a rental and it not being available. I learned that the hard way.

If you start looking at that type of machine look at the Bobcat 200 or 250, John Deere 110, or Kubota L48.

I have used th Kubota model B2710 on numerous jobs. It has plenty of power and can handle about 10-15 different attachments. Just for the heck of it I asked what the base price was, the guy said around almost $25,000 new with 4WD, loader, and one rear attachment. That machine looks to be like a BX22 or something. That usually goes for about $15,000 to $20,000. That's a good amount for a small unpowerful machine like that.

That's exactly what I thought I was getting!!

Dan - can I borrow that from you someday?

Will - I think you pegged the model number on the Kubota.

Hey Stonehenge,

How did that little Kubota BX22 work out anyway?

Did you really find it useful? How well did it dig for such a small rig?

I'm actually thinking about buying one (the Kubota BX23, same size w/FEL and BH, 23hp diesel) for taking care of my own property/planting trees, etc.

Tractors are very easy on the turf.

Thanks for any info,

DT.

I used to rent Terramites which were about the same size. It could barely reach high enough to load my F-350 dump, but it beat a shovel! I rented them basically because they were affordable and I could transport them myself.

When my monthly rental expenditure equaled a machine payment, I bought my 248.

It might work out for your own property, but even with that I'd want a larger bucket on it.

For the project we used it for, it was underpowered and the excavator bucket was pretty small.

On the flip side I recently rented a KX41 mini-X from Kubota. Nice little machine. Quiet, had decent power (though if I were buying one I'd probably go for the KX61), and the controls were pretty smooth.
