I'll chime in on Capital one too, they are fairly permissive with their loans and their rates are very competitive too. Just be sure you read and understand the default rules, they can be nasty if you are late with a payment.

John Keegan, you are the man! I was able to refinance the loan with Capital One for the lowest rates avaiable right now. 7.7%

My other trucks were lower because the rates were better than.

7.7% beats 13.5% all day long!

Thing is... they don't ask for any information on the vehicle at all! So it's really just a low interest personal loan.

So, if you were trying to buy excavating equipment which might normally have higer rates you could probly use this loan as well.

Seriously, I'm glad as hell the information helped. I like to treat the banks as I do the insurance companies, make me the best offer and we'll talk, otherwise I'll walk. Most of them count on us being too lazy to shop around and most are shocked when we do and drop them to go elsewhere.
For instance, most people don't realize that you can get 4.5-5% return on a basic online savings account with banks such as Captial One, Citibank, etc. No minimum deposit... withdrawals when you want...same protection...easy to move money online in and out of other accounts. (Ask your local banker about it and watch them spitter and sputter). But, again, most people just don't take want to take a few minutes to save a few thousand...although they do seem to have the time to sit through "American Idol" and vote online.
So, pat yourself on the back too for taking the time and effort. Most people don't.

very happy to see this thread. i have been shopping for a medium duty truck for a while now. been towing a little more than i like with a 3500. at a minimum i am looking for a dumping flat bed. sometimes i use a hydroseeder that i would like to be able to carry in the back. or at a minimum a large nurse tank. need the ability to dump as well. it seems my nitch is the jobs no one else wants so it has me needing to be prepared for anything. i keep thinking a 5500 with a backpack and maybe 10 ft. bed would be great. then i remember the price. i have found some good priced 6500's with 3116 cat engines. they are ex-state trucks, the price is great and the milage isn't through the roof. also the old penske trucks. they run gas engines but otherwise should be fine. also with the automatice allison i would feel better when someone else is driving it. have checked on some internationals as well. same 3116 cat. from a gm family so if it is the same engine will probably end up with a 6500. this is also the reason the 4 letter word trucks haven't been mentioned. i guess its the same story, don't want to spend too much and would like for truck to do everything great. i am enjoying the insight from everyone.

Well... Capital one auto loans turned out to really suck. They don't give their auto loans for commercial vehicles either. They don't ask for any vehicle information, however, if the vehicle is over a 450 size, like AAA policy, they don't finance them. What they do is nothing. They simply won't honor their check. So, my bank is ready to freeze my account because capital one wouldn't honor their check. Thing is... NO ONE CALLED ME TO TELL ME! The bank simply froze my bank account and when I called capital one they said oh yes, we couldn't finance a commercial vehicle sorry.

SO hopefully my bank will re-activate my original loan and I won't get too screwed.

from what I gather, anything above that 450 size is commercial no matter what. so how big was your truck HRLand?

I haven't tried your friend yet though. I needed a break from the banks and phone calls. 13.5% means we will be trying to pay it off in 1 year. lower and i can justify stretching it to 2 years or 3 if it gets low enough. i just hate paying people interest anyway.

Oh, and you don't have to worry about a dealer near your for service - I'm on my third 26k gvw, and they have never been back to the dealer.


You get a Toyota diesel, and an Allison tranny, life is good.
