Sure, that vine can cause damage if you don't maintain it.

Likewise with Wisteria.

I just pruned a huge one in downtown historic Jacksonville that has a 12" diameter trunk and is swallowing-up beams.

But it was never pruned right.

I'd take the trumpet vine over most in a hearbeat. We had one at home when I was a child, and it stayed there till I was in college.

Never was problem, anchored with ties to the tool shed.

If you prune it once per year, that would be an awesome choice.
