Laser Slop

I have noticed that the accuracy of my new laser is pointless if the measuring rod isn't held perfectly plumb.

Are there measuring rods on the market that include bubble levels on the sides to assist the naked eye in holding the rod plumb?

Is there some trick with the laser detector I can use to insure my measuring rod stands straight?

Does this slop matter much for the work I do?

Probably not, but I don't see the point of trumpeting a tools accuracy, 1/8" @ 1000', when your ability to read it could be off by a 1/2"...
