If the compactor got stuck, I'd think there was too much fines in there instead of the other way around.
Anyway, for my money, whenever the client provides labor or materials, all bets are off for warranties, and your situation is the perfect example why. Or maybe they promise to compact it and instead of a Wacker or Bomag, they use a handmade tamper constructed from a 2x4 and plywood (I saw a DIY book showing how to build one like this).
I hope this one turns out well for you. In the future, I'd shy away from any clients wanting to provide materials or labor.
