I am doing a 3' wide paver walk and was wondering what width I should excavate to. Are there any advantages to excavating beyond a 3' width. I have seen a number of walks where they excavated beyond, and then filled in with maybe 2" of topsoil. Naturally, the grass would burn in the summer due to the lack of moisture retention.
