If you own a Harley Power Rake, you can spread 50sq mt in under 1 hour, smooth as a baby's bum. That's of course if there's no trees or plants in the way.
I have been spreading large amounts of mulch (up to 300 + yards at a time) for around 4 years. Typically I would use my bobcat to roughly spread around, then 2 or 3 guys with rakes etc. Last month I was on a job where we had around 50 yards. After completion the boss said we should get a roller to compact the mulch as the area was to be used as for foot traffic at a venue for the Commonwealth Games (Australia). How the hell you goin to compact mulch!!!!!!!!!
Then I had a bright idea, I attached the Harley and drove over the area. Wow, it was a flat a airport runway. Since then I had another job where we had 140 yards. Took care of that in around 3 hours, no lumps, bumps, holes. You could nearly play pool on it.
If you ever want to make some serious money. Here's the deal.
1. Get the mulch dropped in 20-30 yard heaps. Get behind the pile and push, making smaller piles small enoungh that you can drive over them safely with the Harley. You continually control the height of the Harley giving you an even finish. With each pass the area becomes considerably more level.
2. This is good only for large areas with minimal obsticals. Parks, freeways etc.
3. If you don't own a Bobcat or Harley, you can rent.
4. Do the sums, and charge by the sq yard. I have been using a Harley for around 9 months and consider myself to reasonalbly profficient in operation. That said, I found it easier to level mulch than dirt.
I was so excited when I entered this new dimension of power raking. It has opend up many new doors. I hope this can help many other people out there.
Cheers,
Tom.
