Pool Fountain

We have been asked to build a waterfall into an existing in ground pool. This would be the first for us and I was hoping to get some pointers. We have two options for tapping into the return lines of the pool, one being at the pump and the other being to catch a line at the side of the pool. The pump is about 40' from where the feature is supposed to go. This waterfall will be about 5' wide and about 4 feet off of the water surface. I am not sure if I want to have a regulator at the fall itself or have it contained at the pump. Any feedback would be welcome.
