OK, I think this one is actually pretty easy.
Get the gas company to do it and have the homeowner make the call.
I have a propane tank for my oven and to avoid running out of gas in my 20 lb propane tank for my barbecue I had them come out and run a line to my barbecue. They actually installed a quick release fitting, like on an air hose, so I could take my Weber in for the winter.
The guy came out, drilled a hole in the concrete of my foundation and ran a thick walled copper pipe to the fitting. He then put a sleeve of irrigation hose around the pipe. IT WAS THAT EASY! (Though the guy made me dig the trench).
I have since installed a patio on top of the pipe (very carefully) and have not had the odor of gas yet.
