I have a pair of really beat Wolverines that have lasted three seasons of occasional use. They aren't very comfortable (exact opposite of Chad's experience), but are very reasonably priced and will last a solid season. I still pull 'em out for quarry days and my Halloween costume (Johnny Appleseed).
I'm working in hiking boots right now, a pair of Rocky 6" steel toes that I got from SierraTrading for a song, $75. They are waterproof, comfortable and safe. Unfortunately, the design is poor, and after 6 weeks (ab)use, the sole is shedding away from the leather. No idea how long before the whole sole would pull away...maybe some crazy glue can salvage a season out of them.
Those Asolos look sweet...
