I've never done it, but I've seen it done at an Aquascape build a pond day. There was a jug of some pretty stinky chemical poured on the seam first to clean it, than some tape with a paper wrap that you would peel off. Might want to call them and ask how to go about doing it on an aquascape pond you installed, they seem very helpful.

If the pond you are making larger isn't too big you may want to consider taking all the stone out of it and installing a new liner to start. You will end up removing a lot of the fill stone and gravel to get enough working room to seam the two pieces together anyway.
